Welcome to Antigua & Barbuda, my 137TH Already Visited & 137th First-Time Run UN Country out of a UN total of 193.
Today we made our second and final return to Antigua to tour the southern part of the island. We visited the northern part of the island on 27 December 2025 covered by Post 4, which has the key statistics, brief history and interesting facts about this destination.
The Guiness Book rung me today to say that they were tracking my first-off-the-ship emerging record. With today’s first I was 13 out of 14 firsts !!! Car rental lady was late so my 137th UN Run did not start until 845am. Temperature and humidity were good so the run was good. Took me deep into countryside that was green and good. Our car pulled away at 10am and we headed into the southern half of the island headed east. Willoughby Bay is a highlight and huge. Just around the corner is Half Moon Bay and the private Exchange Bay. It was quickly clear that the southern beaches are clearly better than the north. Turquoise waters, white sand and very swimmable. We visited Galleon Beach, Grace Bay Beach and Darkwood Beach in succession which won it for the south. We would need to review our standing on Antigua given these scenic swimmable southern beaches compared to the bleakness of the north !!!
The absolute highlight of the day was the UNESCO Protected Nelson’s Dockyards, built by the English Navy in 1779 and abandoned in 1889. It is a well-kept complex with original buildings that have meticulously restored. The first part of our highlight was the actual place itself and the second part of our highlight was the free and powerful Wi-Fi in the old café that we sipped Iced Latte and put up Post 15 !!! We did not have any eSim internet on the ship last night when Post 15 was ready to go up and we also did not have any internet on this entire island !!! It was a welcome relief.
Our day drive ended with Valley Church Beach where we took a dip before heading back into the Capital to refuel and re-ship. Antigua turned out better. Better Beaches as you will now see…
